Something that I still find strange today, and something that I heard well-known preacher, Nathan Morris, talk about really well, is when I hear ministers talk about giving or sharing their ‘anointing’ freely as if it was a gift they could give to anyone. Including the idea that our ‘anointing’ can increase.

I have spent hours and hours contemplating this teaching because it always seemed to contradict what I had read in the bible. I heard Nathan Morris speak about this one day and everything just clicked into place and everything made sense again. He said that a lot of ministers get this idea from the bible verse where Elijah is asking Elisha what he wants from him before he is taken by the Lord, and Elisha responds, “Please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me”.

Nathan then explains that the word ‘spirit’ in this scripture is not talking about the anointing or of God’s Spirit (big ‘S’), but is actually talking about Elijah’s character (little ‘s’). When I learnt this, everything clicked. Let me tell you that you lack nothing! You do not have half the Holy Spirit or a junior Holy Spirit – you have the fullness of God living inside of you! If it were true that we were lacking in anything or that we needed someone to give us something we didn’t already have, then we would lose all accountability and would have an excuse to present before God. Saying to God that you don’t have enough ‘anointing’ is just ridiculous. This teaching is not true!

It is in the enemy’s interest to make you think that you do not already have everything that you need to accomplish God’s will and to release His Kingdom here on Earth. Even Jesus said that we would do greater works than He did! What does however differ us from the great men and women of God who we see perform incredible signs, wonders and miracles is their unyielding devotion and obedience, their faith by their works, and their complete surrender to God’s will – it is not that they have anything that you don’t! God tells us to be like children for this very reason.

The size of the box you have placed God in determines how strong your faith is – less box, means stronger faith. In fact it’s better if there were no box in the first place! We know that faith can be great and strong, and we know that it can be small and weak. The centurion and the disciples were good examples of strong and weak faith. It starts with learning to use your spiritual mind! “But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind. For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides].

With this in mind, I now understand why the bible says that teachers will be judged more harshly, because this one misunderstanding of scripture has led so many people down the wrong road. If you’re a teacher, or have the honour and privilege to teach ‘the church’ then be very careful what you are teaching and make sure it is 100% accurate – otherwise I wouldn’t say anything at all until you know for sure.

Knowledge truly is power, but make sure when you hear someone teach on the bible that you don’t accept it at face value, but that you test it and make sure it aligns with the rest of God’s word.

You are anointed! The power and authority that you carry is greater than every demon, fallen angel and evil spirit put together! When they see you, they see Jesus! Go and conquer in Jesus’ name! Be Blessed! 🙂
